A sample from the opening of Roxanna Panufnik's wonderous work Dance of Life - recorded in Estonia (Tallinn) and released on Warner Classics in 2013.

Choral ChameleonChameleonicSt. Paul's Choir & Orchestra, Empire City Men's Chorus, and Artistic Director for all four choruses Vince Peterson warmly welcome the pivotal British composer, Roxanna Panufnik to New York City as we present the United States premiere of her unprecedented work, Dance of Life, a hybrid mass and oratorio in three languages with stunning poetic texts by leading Estonian poets, Doris Kareva and Jürgen Rooste, written in celebration of the 2011 ascension of Tallin, the capital of Estonia, to European Capital of Culture. Panufnik's Dance of Life will be performed by Choral Chameleon and Chameleonic (Choral Chameleon's brother avocational chorus), with special guests Meyer, Empire City Men's Chorus, St. Paul's Carroll Street Episcopal Church Choir & Orchestra.

In Dance of Life, Elu (Soprano, Heather Michele Meyer), the lyric soprano spirit of life, encounters a plethora of everyday people who are searching for something more in their lives. But when she invites them into the Dance, she finds that they are each so consumed with their own solitary existence they cannot connect with her.  Elu declares that despite all our daily struggles and weaknesses, there is pleasure to be had in the Dance of Life.  She reiterates her deeply proud and patriotic feelings about Tallin, and leads us, with all our music of strings, Tallinn’s bells and a rejoicing choir, rising higher and higher upwards, towards God.

Praise for Dance of Life

Its surface gleam is not the gleam of facility, but simply the light that momentarily hides a profound interior.

Magnificent music… The Performance is superb, as is the clear and brilliant sound. Panufnik’s art is something special, putting her among the elite composers in the world today.
