Cantori New York: Pedro Páramo, Concert One

  • The Church of St. Luke in the Fields 487 Hudson St New York, NY, 10014 United States (map)

Tonight at 8:00 pm, ECMC friends Cantori New York will present in concert the world premiere of Pedro Páramo, a piece commissioned from Colombian-American composer Alba Potes. Her inspiration is the eponymous short novel by Juan Rulfo, which tells the story of a man's quest to find his estranged father and instead finding that his parents' home town has become a ghost town inhabited by the shades of the dead. Other pieces in the program include Where the Willows Meet, by Danish composer Niels Rosing-Schow, sets to music poems by James Joyce on the themes of love and music; and Les illusions fanées, four songs from Canadian Jacques Hétu, based on texts from his compatriot, the fin-de-siècle poet Emile Nelligan.
