Unity Variety Mendelssohn Hampton

The EMPIRE CITY MEN’S CHORUS and featured organist William Trafka celebrate the lives of two accomplished musicians: Felix Mendelssohn on the 200th anniversary of his birth, and Calvin Hampton on the 25th anniversary of his death. These organist composers died at the height of their creativity but left us with a rich legacy in spite of the respective adversities they faced in the forms of anti-Semitism and homophobia. Mendelssohn’s work in reviving interest in music from the past and Hampton’s revival of interest in the organ with his famous New York Midnight Organ Recitals opened the ears of entire new generations. Hear the variety, and experience the unity on this wonderful recording.

With Special Guest
William Trafka, Organist
