Presenting Otto

Our Thrive Concerts will mark the debut of Otto, an octet comprised of members of Empire City Men's Chorus selected by audition.  The members of Otto are Craig Goodwin-Ortiz de Leon, Steve Ostrow, Edward Angelo Enrique, Eric Faris, Daniel Fiore, Anthony Pho, Clay Morris, and Bill Powell.

As ECMC's director, Vince Peterson explains:

Otto was born out of a need to both strengthen ECMC from within its membership and also provide the organization with more mobility and reach in the community. We hope that this will create a culture of leadership and musical excellence in the full group, provide a more challenging musical experience for members who are seeking it, and allow us to be more available and present in our community providing the dynamic impact of men’s voices singing together.

Otto will sing an arrangement of the Wexford Carol by Dean X Johnson (1954-1998).  The Wexford Carol (also known as The Enniscorthy Carol) is a traditional Irish Christmas carol, which originated in County Wexford, an English-speaking county in the province of Leinster, Ireland.  Although the lyrics, which relate the Nativity Story, are believed to date from the 12th Century, the melody is much more recent.  The carol was first transcribed and published in the Oxford Book of Carols in 1928. Gaelic versions of the carol are believed to be later translations of the original English lyrics.

Otto will also perform O Regem caeli - Natus est nobis  by Tomás Luis de Victoria (c.1548-1611) and will be featured in the Ave Maria by Franz Xaver Biebl (1906-2001).
